Queensland Corrective Services

Queensland Corrective Services is committed to improving community safety by supporting individuals address their mental health and wellbeing to reduce offending risk and improve engagement with the wider community upon release.  Incarcerated individuals experience higher rates of mental health problems, self-harm, addiction, and other chronic conditions. This is often complicated by a range of social and personal issues such as unemployment, low literacy, and homelessness.  QCS has teams dedicated to providing mental health and disability services, including social workers, who play an integral role in rehabilitation and reintegration by providing evidenced based and trauma informed mental health services.

Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme

The Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme seeks to recognise the harm and trauma experienced by Stolen Generations survivors who were removed from their families or communities in the Northern Territory or the Australian Capital Territory before self-government, and the Jervis Bay Territory. The Scheme is a financial and wellbeing package that provides payment and a Personal Acknowledgement to eligible applicants. The Scheme is managed by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).

Department of Justice and Community Safety

Forensic Intervention Services (FIS) is a specialist program area within Corrections Victoria, providing best practice evidence-based screening, assessment, and intervention to service users in the correctional system, to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. Working mainly with violent, sexual, alcohol and other drug-related offences, FIS is a critical component of the Victorian Department of Justice’s strategy to reduce re-offending and enhance community safety. 

Forensic Intervention Services is recognised nationally for the quality of its work and is heading quickly towards world best practice and outcomes. Founded in the ‘What Works” literature and grounded in the Risk-Need-Responsivity model, our services emphasise group-based interventions tailored to individuals' personalities, learning styles and experiences of trauma, to support meaningful changes in mindset, attitudes and behaviour. With a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and mental health nurses, FIS supports service users to develop the insights, skills, and perspectives to understand the factors that led to their involvement in the justice system. Our forensic clinicians aim to empower individuals to make better decisions, build positive connections to the community, and lead fulfilling and connected lives.
