Adelaide Festival Centre is South Australia’s principal performing arts venue and presenter of theatre, dance, music and exhibitions. Like all Australian live performance organisations, March 2020 saw the closure of Adelaide Festival Centre due to the public health emergency wrought by COVID-19. The Centre found ways to respond quickly and strategically to mass-cancellations of several major events by continuing to engage with audiences in an online environment; presenting the popular Adelaide Cabaret Festival as a “Bite Sized” online event. As of September 2020, Adelaide Festival Centre has been amongst the first large indoor venues to re-open for live performances. The team’s task in this new COVID-19 environment is to remind audiences about the magic of live performance and ensure they feel safe to return.
